While we highly encourage experimenting with makeup – bold colours, unique formulas, you name it – sometimes, there's that one colour that we always seem to go back to. It's our signature light brown shadow, pale shade of pink blush, or that matte red lipstick you haven't been able to go without since buying it. It's our everyday, signature makeup look that often looks best on us, and enhances our natural beauty (hence why we chose it as a part of our daily beauty routines).
And while most of us have our own signature look, each look is quite different depending on our facial features, hair colour, and more importantly, our eye colour. Among the plethora of different shades of shadow, lipstick, blush, and liner, there's one specific colour that will suit you best based on your eye colour.
So, how do we know which colour exactly? That's where Get The Look comes in. Whether you have blue, green, or brown eyes, read on to find out which makeup shades suit you best!
MAKEUP FOR BLUE EYES
If you're lucky enough to be born with blue eyes, you'll want to make them pop as much as you can. If you prefer neutrals, opt for a warm, rust-coloured shadow or even orange (if you're feeling daring) that will draw attention to your bright eyes and make them stand out.
If you're feeling like a risqué blue-eyed beauty, opt for a cool shade of purple rather than emerald or cobalt because blue eyes will get lost in blue shadows. Purple shadow will help accentuate blue eyes, so use a shimmery shade to help put a focus on them.
Smoky eyes may be a classic, but they tend to overshadow blue eyes rather than enhance them. Soften your look with a neutral palette of browns, golds and light pinks instead. Enhance your eyes further with brown liner on the upper and lower lids.
As for mascara, opt for a bold shade of turquoise that will accentuate your baby blues without overshadowing them. And if you're a lipstick kind of girl, opt for a bright shade of pink in the summer that will create a stark contrast next to your blue eyes, making them pop!
MAKEUP FOR GREEN EYES
Every makeup bag needs the right neutral eye shadow, and for women with green eyes, we suggest a warm shade of taupe that will bring out your green eyes. When it comes to liner, heavy black liner can look too severe on light eyes, especially in the day time. Opt for a creamy pencil liner in a dark shade of grey for a softer, less overpowering alternative.
If there's one colour green eyed gals should play around with it's purple! It's extra gorgeous on green eyes (although it looks great on blue eyes, as well!). Green's complementary colour on the colour wheel is red, so any shadow with red undertones (like purple), really makes green eyes pop.
If you're a fan of the smoky eye, dust a little bit of silver shadow, rather than black, across your lids and in the inner corners. It's both smoky and bright, which will give green eyes a gorgeous boost!
And just because you have green eyes, it doesn't mean you have to rule out green shadows either – just go for a silvery sage shade that will make your eyes shimmer. Pair a neutral shade of your choice with a red lip that will make your eyes stand out in a crowd.
MAKEUP FOR BROWN EYES
If you have deep, mesmerizing brown eyes, you're lucky because brown is a mixture of all primary colours meaning you have a lot more makeup options! If you're feeling fun and flirty, play around with a vibrant shade of cobalt blue shadow. The contrast will make your eyes pop!
When it comes to mascara, purple shades like eggplant, best enhance brown eyes with hazel flecks and will make the whites of the eyes look extremely bright.
If you're a brown eyed beauty looking for a pretty-eye makeup look that's neither drab or too over-the-top, go for a greenish gold shadow. There's many green tones that come in a wide range of matte and metallic shades and it's likely that they'll all look great on you!
You can also warm up a neutral shadow shade, like taupe, with a layer copper shadow on the outer halves of your eye lids. This will highlight your eye colour, and a shimmery finish shadow will add a little bit of texture.
When it comes to choosing the perfect liner, deep blue is the best bet for daytime, office-appropriate cat eyes – it also animates brown eyes without look too severe (as black sometimes does). Warm metallic shades also make brown eyes glisten and highlight even the slightest hint of gold undertones. Opt for a brown-nude lipstick to compliment the brown in your eyes and let them do all the talking.
