If there's one way to get rid of end-of-summer blues, it's by thinking about all the new fashion and beauty trends that come with the changing of seasons. And after adding to our wardrobes, changing up our skin care routine, and building our makeup collection with things like red eye makeup and dark lipstick, we're looking to another one of fall's hottest trends: dark eyes.
Whether it's black mascara, black pencil liner, or a smooth liquid formula, it's all about creating dark, heavy eyes for a dramatic and mysterious fall look – it will be a major change from summers minimal eye makeup and sun-kissed glow!
Wondering how exactly you should achieve the dark eye look for fall 2016? You're in luck! Get The Look is offering you 4 different ways to wear black makeup on, above, and under your eyes for a runway-approved look!
TREND: DARK EYE MAKEUP IN 4 WAYS
At Rahul Mishra, makeup artists focused all of their attention on models lower, inside waterlines. This is the area beneath your eye, just above your lower lash line. While the eyelid and upper lashes were almost bare of makeup, the bottom lashes and waterline were heavily lined and coated with mascara and a black pencil liner. This look offers a seriously grungy effect that only some would dare to adopt, but it's the best technique for making your eyes stand out amongst the crowd.
THE SMEARED LOOK
Speaking of grunge, designers like Chloe showcased models with smeared black liner under their eyes for fall 2016, creating a slept-in, morning-after eye makeup look. If you're feeling fall's grunge vibes, apply a black pencil liner inside your waterlines, then use a damp cotton pad to gently tap the liner, forcing it downwards beneath your lower lash line. To add to the smeared effect, use a grey or black eye shadow, and gently smear it using a fluffy shadow brush just beneath your lower lashes.
Leave your eyelids bare and coat your upper lashes with a thin layer of lengthening mascara to finish off this look.
GLAM FUZZY LINER
For a glam and balanced dark eyed look, line both your top and bottom lash lines with a black or brown pencil liner, smudging the product with a shadow brush after application. Make sure not to get any liner on your waterlines, because you want to achieve a more wide-eyed look. Next, apply mascara to your top and bottom lashes for an even look, then finish off with gold and brown shadow to add a few glam finishing touches!
GRAPHIC AND BOLD
The graphic liner look will continue to claim its victims, this autumn/winter. Whether it's a double cat-eye or negative space liner, the graphic look has proven to be one of the most prominent eye makeup trends of the season.
One of our personal favourites? The fully outlined cat eye spotted at Topshop Unique's fall 2016/17 presentation. The eye was lined all the way around with a black pencil liner – yes, even on the inner corners – and accentuated with a black liquid liner that was drawn on the top and bottom lash lines, extending outwards to create a dramatic cat eye. Finished off with extra large lashes, bold brows, and a nude mouth, this look was sophisticated, edgy, and sensual.
