As temperatures drop this season, we're looking for new and unique ways to winterize our makeup bags. From lighter, hydrating concealers and foundation to red-reducing colour correctors and dark lipsticks with blue undertones, there are many ways to cool down your makeup look for the snowy season. And while you were busy looking for the perfect dark lipstick to wear to your next holiday party, you almost forgot to give your eyes a little attention, too!
This season, it's all about the jewel-tone eye – it's a great way to play up your pretty eyes no matter what colour or shape you have. Emily Ratajkowski, Jessica Alba and Olivia Wilde are only a few of the celebrities who have been spotted wearing the trend this year. Choose purple amethyst, eggplant, sapphire blue, or emerald green shadows, mascaras or liners to create new looks that will get you noticed.

MAKEUP TREND: JEWEL-TONE EYES
OPT FOR COLOURED EYE LINERS AND MASCARAS
Apply emerald green, amethyst, or sapphire blue eye liner along the upper lash line only and end it in a slight wing at the ends of the eyes. Sweep matching jewel-tone mascara on your top and bottom lashes and dab on a little cream highlighter under your brows. Keep your lids bare and fill in your brows with a brow pencil.
PAIR A JEWEL-TONE EYE LINER WITH A MATCHING SHADOW
Sweep the liner along the upper lash line, then use the matching shadow and blend it along the eyelid from the lash line to the crease. Then, smudge it under the lower lash line. Blend the shadow, then apply a shimmering white shadow or highlighter onto the inner corners of your eyes and apply black mascara.
GO FOR A SPARKLING SMOKY EYE
Who said a smoky eye has to be black? Jewel-tone smoky eyes are an easy and glamorous way to switch up the classic version of a smoky eye. To do this, use a deep black liner along the upper and lower lashes as close to the roots of the lashes as possible. Then, use a sparkling emerald green (or jewel-tone of your choice) eye shadow to blend on the eyelids from the lash line, going up and over the crease slightly. Apply the same shadow on your lower lash line, then apply a black shadow onto the outer corners of your eyes. Blend to create a smoky effect then finish off with a touch of mascara.
MISMATCH JEWEL TONES ON THE UPPER AND LOWER LASH LINES
If you're looking for a fun and modern way to wear jewel tones, mix it up! Choose a shadow like amethyst or sapphire and sweep it along the upper lash line and lid. Then go for a totally different hue like emerald and smudge it along the lower lash line. Skip the liner and sweep on a layer of black mascara. If you're looking for something even more daring, coat your upper lashes with a jewel tone mascara.
TRY ALL THREE JEWEL TONE COLOURS AT ONCE
If you can't decide which beautiful jewel-tone to go for, why not try them all? Sweep an amethyst purple (or colour of your choice) lightly in the crease of the eyes. Apply the next shade a bit heavier along the lids from the lash line to the crease. Under the lower lash line, blend on the last colour, then finish with a black liner on the waterline of the eyes and a heavy dose of black mascara.
