This season, makeup appeared on the runway in the form of glitter brows, blue eye shadow, and bold lips, proving that this season's beauty trends are statement-making and over-the-top. And with summer in full swing, it's the perfect time to add a little colour to your beauty routine, and to your life!
The easiest way to add colour to your look? Highlight your eyes with a vibrant shadow colour – like pink or even blue – that will not only spice up your look, but accentuate the colour of your eyes, as well. What more could a girl ask for?
MAKEUP TREND: POPS OF COLOUR ON THE EYES
This season, we spotted several different vibrant colours on models eyelids, making us want to give this daring trend a try for ourselves. The most prominent trend for spring/summer 2016 was blue lids, with labels like Chanel and Missoni demonstrating a display of full-on vibrant and powder blue shades of shadow covering the eyes.
Subtle shades of pink were also a major colour trend on the eyes this season, the perfect alternative to adding colour to your look if you aren't a huge beauty risk taker. But whether it's pink, blue, coral, or even orange, don't be afraid to experiment with colour this season!
So, how do you wear bold colours for everyday life without looking like a clown? To start, make sure you're choosing a colour that flatters your skin tone and your eye colour. This is where it's important to know your undertones, and which colours best suit them best. People with warm complexions should opt for warmer shades like pink or orange, while people with cooler complexions can pull off cooler shades like blue.
As for the rest of your skin, go for a dewy, highlighted look on your face, using a light BB or CC cream. Keep the rest of your makeup to a minimum, leaving your lips and cheeks bare of colour. Draw on your brows to frame your eyes and coat your lashes with a hint of mascara to make the colour pop!
If you're a little skeptical about wearing bold shades of blue, orange or pink to the office, a more discreet way to adopt the trend is through a coloured eyeliner. If you have blue or green eyes, a blue liner will make the colour stand out, while warmer shades like orange will compliment brown eyes.
Line just underneath your bottom lashes, or use the colour to compliment a cat eye for a subtle, yet sophisticated take on the trend.
In recent seasons, brows have gotten bolder and fuller, allowing the eyes to pop even more. If you're feeling a little extra rebellious when it comes to summer makeup, try the coloured brow trend by shading in your brows with a vibrant brow pencil or gel. Keep the rest of your eye makeup to a minimum, adding just a hint of mascara to your lashes.
