The cold weather season is the perfect time to introduce dark shades of lipstick, eye shadow, and nail polish into your beauty routine. Bright corals are replaced by deep plums, and pink is replaced by sultry shades of burgundy and red. If you've already adopted this season's dark lipstick trend, it's time to focus on the next trend: Nail polish. Nothing accompanies a warm, oversized sweater as well as a dark polish that will contrast against pale winter skin. The most prominent dark polish colour on the Fall/Winter 2016/17 runways? Black polish.
Edgy, mysterious and glam, black nail polish is a winter must-have. But this season, there's a twist. Rather than going for your usual solid black look, try creating a cool contrast with bright coloured tips. Need a little inspiration? Get The Look is giving you three different ways to rock the black polish, coloured tip trend for winter.
BLACK POLISH AND UNIQUE TIPS: THE DUO YOU MUST TRY
BLACK AND WHITE FRENCH MANICURE
For a timeless and sophisticated look that's versatile and can be worn in the office or for a night out, try a black nail with a classic French tip.
To get this look, start by applying two coats of black polish onto your nails (after applying the base coat, of course). Once the polish dries, use nail tape to mark the area at the tip of your nail that you will paint with a white French tip. Paint the area with white nail polish, then let it dry and repeat a second time to make sure no black polish shows through. Let the polish dry then finish off with a clear top coat for a shiny finish.
If you're looking for a manicure that's a little more interesting, look to this season's nail contouring trend. Yes, nail contouring. The technique is meant to make your fingers and nails look long and slim for a beautiful manicure. To do this, apply a black polish onto your nails, let it dry then apply a second coat. Next, use a dark grey or taupe polish and create a vertical line starting in the centre of the tip of the nail, moving the line down towards the base of the nail. Finish off with a shiny top coat and voila! Slimmer, elongated nails!
BLACK WITH A BRIGHT CONTRAST
If you really want to stand out, opt for a matte black polish with a neon or bright colour tip. At Manish Arora, models nails were painted with a matte black and topped with neon pink flames at the tip.
To achieve this look, apply two coats of matte black polish then let it dry. Layer your polish with a matte finish top coat, then using a colour of your choice (make sure it's bright!), paint a horizontal line along your tips. Using an angled brush, create lines moving vertically out of the line you created on the tip to get the flames effect. Finish off with a top coat.
