Halloween is normally reserved for over-the-top costumes, extreme makeup, and lots of hair product that will most likely take days to wash out. There's rarely any thought put into the subtle details – like nails, for example. However, if you're not into the spooky holiday or don't have the time to come up with an extravagant costume, dip your toes in by using nail art to express your inner evil side.
To help you get inspired this Halloween, Get The Look is giving you three nail art tutorials spotted on Instagram. Happy experimenting!
HALLOWEEN NAIL ART TUTORIALS
DRIPPING BLOOD NAIL ART
If you're not into the whole dripping-blood-from-the-face look, try the look on your nails!
Start off by clipping, filing and buffing your nails to create a smooth canvass to work on. Then, create a base by covering your nails in a clear base coat, then paint them with a white or flesh coloured polish. Let the polish dry, then repeat for a second coat.
Using a tool with a narrow end (like a cue-tip), draw four red dots in the middle of your nail with a red polish. Then, connect the first dot to the base of your nail (towards your fingers) with a line using the same red polish. Do the same for the next three dots, then connect the lines to one another at the base of the nail.
Using the red polish, create two small dots on top of the original ones (towards the top of the nail) to create the effect of dripping blood.
Finish off by coating your nail with a clear top coat for a shiny finish.
CANDY CORN NAIL ART
Start off by painting clipped, filed and buffed nails with one coat of clear base polish and two coats of black polish.
Using nail tape or stickers, place two pieces of tape diagonally on the nail so that they intersect creating a triangle in the middle of the two pieces of tape.
Next, use white, orange and yellow nail polish and draw lines on a damp sponge. Draw one line of white at the top, then place the orange directly under it, followed by the yellow polish. Gently dab the sponge onto your nail, focusing on the inside of the triangle you created. Remove the nail tape and finish off with a clear top coat.
SKELETON NAIL ART TUTORIAL
Start off with clean, filed and buffed nails. Coat them with one layer of clear top coat, and two layers of white polish. Once dry, place long, thin nail stickers vertically on your nail. Paint over the nail with a black polish, then remove the stickers. You'll be left with black and white striped nails. Repeat this on four of your nails, then finish off with a clear top coat.
On your fifth, empty nail (finger of your choice), use white polish to create the skeleton's base. Then, using a thin nail tool (or a cue-tip), paint a horizontal, curved line at the tip of your nail. Draw smaller vertically lines through the horizontal line to create the skeleton's mouth.
Next, use the same black polish to draw two large eyes at the base of your nail. Finish off with two lines of black polish for the nose, then seal with a clear top coat.
