When it comes to giving your nails a fun shake up, the smallest changes can have the biggest effect! You can add a pop of color with an eye-catching pattern - like a few cute polka dots! - or you could create a head-turning accent nail, or you can try out something even more subtle by opting for the new 'flip' manicure! Well, it's not that new, but it has just recently been given a whole new lease on life at the DSquared2 show during Milan Fashion Week, where the models flaunted hints of color beneath their nails, while sporting pale, neutral nail polish on top.
Why we love it
What's not to love?! It may not be the easiest manicure to reproduce in a hurry, but with a steady hand you can be on your way to a flipped manicure in no time. Our favorite part? No matter the outfit or the event, this method is the perfect way to inject any color you like into your manicure without raising any eyebrows!
Tips for a 'flip mani'
If you are looking to copy this manicure, you need to grow your nails a little longer than usual. You can do this by keeping them in tip top shape: file them - don't cut or bite them - and make sure you file your nails in one direction to prevent the keratin from weakening. Then keep your nails hydrated with a regular hand cream, especially during the colder months.
Use either the polish applicator brush of your chosen shade or switch to a brush with a smaller head for greater precision. For a more intense color that lasts longer, treat your flip mani to the same treatment you would give your normal manicure: try dabbing a base coat onto the underside of your nails before you start, and finish with a top coat after you have applied the color.
Once you have completed your flip mani, turn to the other side to give your nails a coat of cream, nude, or white polish to keep things simple... let your subtle pop of color do all the talking!
