So you have tried french manicures, accent nails and the two-tone nail trend in so many bold or pastel shades during the spring, but now that it's summer, what new nail trend can we try? Well, as a totally fresh and original manicure to help you switch up any plain block color, nail contouring has come onto our radar as a hot trend for the summer season!
This delicate two-tone manicure gives a subtle edgy highlight to any block shade by layering two contrasting shades and leaving the lower layer peeking through at the edges. You can add a splash of color to a muted pastel palette by having a pop lower layer, or you can go wild with two bold contrasting shades: there's something for everyone and it's so easy to recreate! Follow our quick nail tutorial for gorgeously contoured nails...

Start by applying a base coat: not only does this help to protect the nail and keep the color fixed in place for longer, but it also makes removing the polish so much easier - what a time saver!
Apply two coats of violet polish to your nails, making sure to wait between coats for each nail to dry properly.
Next, choose your second shade, in this case a glossy white. Apply in smooth strokes, leaving an edge of color on each nail to let the previous layer pop through. Give this color a second coat for a high-intensity finish.
To secure the polish in place and add a brilliant shine to your manicure, add a top coat to each nail and you're done!
Top nail tip: This summer, throw the rule book out the window and dare to color-clash! Combine whites, oranges, purples and blues for a tropical nail palette and dare to flash a dramatic party-time manicure.
