NAIL ART TUTORIAL: KARLIE KLOSS' GOLD FRENCH MANICURE
For this tutorial, you will need:
- A manicure block
- A nail file
- A base coat
- A top coat
- An eye shadow applicator
- A sparkling gold polish
The first step when you want to achieve a subtle manicure – one that is discrete or almost nude – is to remove all traces of nail polish beforehand with a polish remover. Then, trim your nails with a clipper and file to create even lengths. When filing, avoid moving the nail file in a back and forth motion – this can cause damage to your nails. Instead, move in one direction, lift the file and continue on.
Once your nails are filed and trimmed, use the manicure block to create a smooth base to work on on the nail. Fill a large bowl up with warm, soapy water and soak your nails for about 10 minutes to clean, then dry your hands off with a clean towel.
Now that your nails are cleaned and trimmed, it's time to take on the manicure. To do this, start by applying a base coat over the entire surface of the nail to create a perfect canvas. Let the coat dry then proceed to the next step.
Next, draw the outline for your glittery tips. With your sparkly gold polish, make a small strip about 2-3 millimetres wide at the end of each nail. Bend it slightly, following the natural shape of the nail.
To create a gradient effect that slowly fades out as it moves downwards on the nail with the glitter, drop a few drops of gold glitter polish on to an eye shadow applicator. Apply the glitter to the nail, under the point made in step 4, pressing the tip of the applicator lightly onto the nail. Personalize your look as you like and have fun creating an uneven effect that slowly fades out on other fingernails.
When the gold polish is dry, layer your new masterpiece with a light layer of glossy top coat. This will extend the life of your manicure and give it extreme shine.
