With Spring 2017 New York Fashion Week and the 41st Toronto International Film Festival well underway, we've seen a major dose of red carpet glamour in the last couple of weeks. And in the midst of two major events, Harper's BAZAAR magazine hosted its 'ICONS by Carine Roitfeld' event on September 9th in New York City, where it-girls, top models, and the most stylish of celebs came adorned in some of their best looks.
Among them, was L'Oreal Paris ambassador and Russian supermodel Natasha Poly who caught our attention with one of the most adorable duo's of the season: a curly ponytail and colourful cat eyes. The muse matched her purple liner with her outfit, wearing a sheer purple gown adorned with regal embellishments that covered just enough.
And since we love this cute fall combination, we're showing you how to achieve it for yourself! Read on to learn how to perfect the colourful cat eye, and get the curly ponytail of your dreams.
NATASHA POLY: CURLY PONYTAIL AND COLOURFUL CAT EYES
Colourful liner, blush, shadow, lipstick – you name it – can be difficult to pull off for anyone (check out our tips, here). And with colours like red, burnt orange, teal, and lilac becoming more and more popular among designers and celebs, perfecting the look for this season has become more important than ever. Natasha showed us how to start off with a subtler approach to colourful liner, adopting a soft shade of purple that slightly enhanced her eyes.
Here's how you can re-create her cool cat-eyes for yourself:
Start off by creating a base on your eyelids using a soft brown or slightly orange shade of shadow. Extend the shadow slightly upwards towards your brows so that it will show through when you apply your coloured liner. Once you've created a canvass to work on, get your hands on a purple coloured eyeliner pencil and begin your cat-eye. Start by drawing a point from the outer corners of your eyes up towards your brow bone and temples. Then, link that line to your inner corners in one stroke. You should now have one single line that runs from our inner corners to the point of the cat-eye. Thicken the line by drawing over it multiple times, so that you eventually have filled in the entire area between your crease and lash line.
For a sparkling finish, layer the purple liner with a purple glitter shadow and finish off with a touch of mascara on your upper and lower lashes.
A HIGH VOLUME PONYTAIL
To highlight those doe eyes and give your face an instant lift, opt for a high, voluminous ponytail like Natasha's.
To start, pull your hair up into a high ponytail on top of your head, secure with an elastic. Spray the hair within your ponytail with a heat protective spray for curly hair, then use a medium barrel curling iron to curl your locks piece by piece. Take a lock of your ponytail and wrap it around the base of your ponytail to hide the elastic. Brush the hair out to create a more natural, voluminous look and finish off with a generous amount of volumizing hair spray for maximum body.
