As far as classic nail colors go, candy apple red takes the cake! Elegant, bold, feminine and tasteful, the color is a favorite of women around the world. Of course, if you're a fan of nail art, then you might be looking for ways to put a spin on the old classics! Enter: negative space triangles!
Give your manicure a graphic touch by using the negative space technique to create clear triangles on each nail like actress Portia Doubleday! Even more glamorous and original, this easy alternative can be achieved in just 5 minutes. Want to try it? Just follow our easy tutorial!
The red manicure, reinvented
- A nail file
- Base coat
- Red nail polish
- Nail art tape
- Top coat
Start by filing down your nails into a uniform shape. This look is particularly lovely on long nails with an oval tip. Once you're done filing, wash your hands with warn water and soap before applying hand cream.
Protect your nail bed from staining by applying a base coat to each nail. Wait a minute before moving on to the next step to give your base coat time to dry.
Cut triangle shapes from your nail art tape, changing the size as needed for your thumb and pinky fingers. Apply the tape at the base of each nail and then paint each nail red as you normally would. Apply a second coat for total opacity.
Once your nails are totally dry, use tweezers to lift the tape from the bottom of the triangles and remove them from your nails.
To help your nail art last longer, apply a glossy top coat to each nail and allow it to dry.
