Sequins are – and always have been – the quintessential embellishment when it comes to New Years Eve. But after years of sequin dresses taking over the night, it's time to give your sequinned look a more original twist. L'Oreal Paris muse and style blogger Kristina Bazan showed us how to don a subtler take on sequins by pairing a sequin tank with a simple pair of jeans, a scarf belt and a matching sequin choker.

Add an edgy twist to your glamorous look by wearing your hair in twin top knots on each side of your head, then curling the bottom slightly for a more evening-appropriate hairstyle.

Lately, metallic silver has been the metal of choice when it comes to getting dressed up for an evening out. It's even made its way to our beauty kits in the form of eye shadow, hair gel and lipstick! Work the metallic trend like style blogger Alicia Roddy this New Years Eve, who showed off a black t-shirt tucked into an eye-catching metallic silver mini skirt. Alicia layered the look with a velvet jacket that will be sure to keep you stylish and warm this NYE!

Sheer is one of the easiest ways to achieve a sultry evening look this New Years Eve, so why not go all out and rock a full-on sheer dress like style blogger Danielle Bernstein of We Wore What? The brunette blogger donned a floor-length sheer gown with Victorian-style embellishments at the chest and subtle ruffles at the bottom of the dress. For an ultra-chic look, layer your sheer dress over top of a cool bralette and high waisted underwear shorts. Don't forget your favourite berry lipstick!

Just because you're already wearing an over-the-top velvet, sequin or sheer ensemble, it doesn't mean you have to turn it down when it comes to accessories. Shea Marie of Peace Love Shea showed off a maroon sequin gown on her Instagram account, and paired it with a metallic gold belt around the waist. She matched her beauty look by creating a star shape around one of her eyes in glitter!

Don't be afraid to rock accessories and makeup looks that are equally as bold as your outfit this NYE!
