Two-tone nails at the New York Fashon Week

New York Fashion Week: two-tone nail art!

Fashion Week isn't just about the beautiful clothes, stunning models, and A-list celebrities in the front row. It's also about spotting beauty trends, whether that be hair, makeup...or nails! With that in mind, we were super excited when we came across these on-trend nails yesterday, on the closing day of NYFW (don't worry, London Fashion Week starts today)! If you want to try it out for yourself, here's how:

The French Manicure, reversed, with a surprise!

Never heard of a reverse French manicure? The clue is in the name... Instead of the color being on the tip of your nails, it goes on the lunula (the crescent-shaped whitish area at the bed of your fingernail) or at least where the lunula should be.

Firstly, you need to apply two coats of your dominant color as a base coat (in this example, white). Wait for it to dry completely before moving on to the next part.

Take a piece of nail tape, and cut out a small C shape (one that matches the size of your nail bed) and then gently stick the tape over your fingernail. The only part of the nail visible should be the half-moon shape of the lunula.

Take your second color (in our example, black) and paint one coat over the nail tape, focusing on the exposed half-moon shape. Wait for it to dry, then peel off the tape. You've got your reverse French manicure!

If you want to add an extra element of surprise to your nail art, use a third color (here we have silver, but gold or glitter would also look great) and draw one line of color up the side of your nail to turn your fingertips into a piece of graphic art!
