New York Fashion Week A/W 2016-17 has come and gone but we at Get the Look are still busy dissecting the runways' hair and makeup trends! When it comes to hairstyles, there were all of the old standbys: ultra-sleek ponytails, romantic waves, ribbon accessories, and braids were aplenty, but we were particularly drawn to the twisted ponytails spotted at Hiromi Asai and Tommy Hilfiger's presentations!
The humble ponytail was given - quite literally - a twist and transformed into two looks that are modern yet elegant, sophisticated but offbeat. Let's take a closer look...
French Twist Ponytail
At the Hiromi Asai show, stylists created a French Twist starting at the hairline and finishing at the nape of the neck.
Get the Look: Split your hair down the middle and then grab two small sections at the front of each side. Wrap the left section of hair around the right section before securing it with a bobby pin. Now, grab two new sections and continue wrapping the hair around the ends of the peevious sections.
Continue toward the back until you've reached the nape of the neck, then spritz the look with strong hold hairspray and then toss the ends over your right shoulder.
Double Twist Ponytail
At Tommy Hilfiger, the hairstyles were classically preppy: straight hair was gathered into a low ponytail and then flipped inside out to create a unique twist.
Get the Look: Smooth a nourishing hair oil through your hair, starting at the ends and then moving up through the mid-lengths. Smooth your back back into a low ponytail and then move the hair tie down a couple of inches.
Use your finger to create a little whole in the center of the hair above the hair tie and then flip your ponytail inside of that whole. Now complete your look with a veil of pro-gloss hairspray.
