Last night, Bulgarian-Canadian actress Nina Dobrev lit up the 2016 American Music Awards red carpet in black suit embellished with silver jewels. She layered it over top of a black bustier top that added a sultry vibe to her look. Nina's eye-catching look came just in time for the holiday season, which is defined by dark shades, sparkly accents and of course, glitter.
We love that Nina wasn't afraid to go all out with this look, pairing it with an equally sparkly shade of grey eye shadow and silver sparkles through her French braids. We're so inspired by Nina's latest look that we felt the need to show you how to re-create it for your next holiday party. Bring on the glitter!
NINA DOBREV: RE-CREATE HER AMA'S BEAUTY LOOK
HAIR: GLITTER BRAIDS
For a look that made a subtle statement, Nina opted for natural waves and a deep side part adorned with two French braids that ran down one side of her head. She amped her braids up with a touch of silver glitter that matched her embellished suit.
To get this look, start off by spraying your hair with a heat protective spray while you warm up a large barrel curling iron. Once the iron is hot, curl large sections of hair at your ends for a naturally wavy look. Brush the curls out with a brush for a super subtle wave when you've finished. Next, use a tail comb to create deep side part, leaving room for two French braids on the side where you've created the part.
Next, divide the remaining hair into two sections, and begin an inverted French braid from your hairline towards your ends, creating a curve as you go. Once you've reached the area slightly beneath your ear, secure the braid with an elastic and continue to French braid the second section of hair beneath it. End this braid slightly lower than the first braid and secure with an elastic.
Now for the fun part: Take a silver hair glitter, and apply it using your fingers (if you please) onto the most prominent part of each braid for the finishing touch!
MAKEUP: SHIMMERY SHADOW
To match her silver braids, Nina opted for a shimmery grey eye shadow that enhanced her brown eyes and created a nice contrast against her warm complexion.
To get this look, start by perfecting your base with a foundation of your choice. Warm your complexion by applying a bronzing blush onto your cheeks, temples and chin, then highlight the more prominent parts of your face using a powdered highlighter.
To create a glare like Nina's, start by applying a light sparkly grey eye shadow onto your lids and crease, blending the shadow outwards with a fluffy brush to create a slight cat eye effect. Use an angled brush to apply the same shade underneath your lower lash line.
Use a darker grey or black shadow to create dimension in your crease and at the outer corners of your eyes. Make sure to blend! Enhance your eyes further by creating a line that follows your upper lids using a black liquid liner. Make the line thinner towards the inner corners, and thicker as you work your way outwards. Next, use a black pencil liner, and apply it on your lower waterline, then finish off with a volumizing mascara on your upper and lower lashes!
