Pantone's 2014 Color of the Year on the runway! Will you wear it?

Each year, the color experts at Pantone announce a Color of the Year. The hot hue for 2014 is Radiant Orchid- an alluring and vibrant shade of purple.

How do they do it?

Choosing a Color of the Year begins in the spring, when Pantone begins scouring the world for new color influences and trends. Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director at the Pantone Color Institute, described Radiant Orchid as "an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple, and pink undertones... inspir[ing] confidence and emanat[ing] great joy, love, and health."

Where did we see it?

Naturally, we had to see if Radiant Orchid has previously made an appearance on the runway. Since Fashion Week is where many trends make their debut, it wasn't at all surprising to discover it has been used multiple times!

The color first appeared first in the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week, in the form of a gorgeous printed silk overcoat. Later, Radiant Orchid showed up in collections for both Max Mara and Missoni at Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014. Max Mara brought a chic monochromatic look to the table- with a chic slip dress and two matching handbags. Missoni paired a fuchsia-hued leather blouse with a pencil skirt and strappy sandals.

What ways can I wear it?

If you don't already have Radiant Orchid in your closet, don't worry. Trying out the color doesn't have to cost a fortune because you can also use the shade in your beauty look! Guess that article on pulling off purple eyeshadow arrived just in time, eh? Don't forget that bold fuchsia lipstick is also right on trend at the moment, so now you really have no excuse not to try this color out!
