The 2016 Olympics opens with the world's longest runway walk

Rio 2016: The 2016 Olympics opens with the world's longest runway

by Paige Exell -

As you probably already know, the 2016 Summer Olympic Opening Ceremony was held in Rio de Janeiro on August 5th. The goal of the night? To show the history of Brazil, from indigenous people until modernity. Dancers performed and leapt across a lighted stage with the help of a Cirque du Soleil choreographer – a performance that certainly did not disappoint. For the real highlight of the night, Brazil showcased one of its most famous exports: supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

The Horizontina, Brazil native came out of runway retirement to walk the world's longest runway – which is being reported as 128 meters – to the song "The Girl from Ipanema". The runway was the last and longest Gisele has ever walked, with Gisele herself telling People magazine that "this is for sure the longest runway I have ever walked in my life and by far with the most amount of people watching, so it is a little nerve-wracking I must say."

"I am so happy to be part of the opening ceremony in my homeland and to celebrate these bright stars from around the globe," she continued in an Instagram post. "As I walk down tonight on the longest runway I have ever been on I will be sending out all my love and positivity. I am humbled and honored to be part of this historic moment for my country. I believe that the unity is the key to creating a world filled with kindness, gratitude, peace, and love."

GISELE BUNDCHEN: HER LAST RUNWAY WALK AT THE 2016 OLYMPIC OPENING CEREMONY

A SEQUIN DRESS

The spring/summer 2016 season is no stranger to sequins. The glamorous, party-girl embellishment has been seen on multiple runways, red carpets, and celebrities, and fits perfectly with the season's futuristic take on fashion and beauty trends. Gisele made sure to stand out for her last runway walk wearing a gold sequined dress designed by Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch.

The dress was a floor-length, long-sleeved number with a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit that offered viewers a sensual, yet sophisticated look that couldn't be ignored.

A GLAM BEAUTY LOOK

As always, Gisele stunned on the world's longest runway, sporting a dark grey smoky eye, ultra long lashes, a dewy glow, and smile that lit up like her sequin dress with the help of a little neutral gloss. To achieve a similar look, unify your base with a liquid or cushion foundation that will provide maximum coverage with a slightly dewy glow. Using a large brush, apply a few dabs of bronzer onto your cheeks and forehead for a sun-kissed look like Gisele, then apply a hint of pink blush to the apples of your cheeks to further enhance your complexion.

Using a small shadow brush, apply a light grey shadow into the inner portion of your eyelids towards your nose. Then, apply a darker shade of grey or black onto the outer corners of your eyes, blending the two colours together where they meet in the middle of your lids. Apply a hint of the same shade underneath your lower lash line to create a shadow. Use L'Oreal's Butterfly Sculpt mascara for Gisele-worthy lashes and finish off with a touch of clear lipgloss.

As for her hair, Gisele wore her signature beach-y waves that put the cherry on top of her ultra glamorous Olympic Opening Ceremony look.
