What a year for actress Rooney Mara! The 30-year-old star has been out on the red carpet time and time again promoting new film after new film - whether for her role as Tiger Lily in Pan or for her performance in the Oscar-tipped drama Carol - and we can't wait to see what she does next!
On November 17, the star stepped out for the Museum of Modern Art's 8th Annual Film Benefit Honoring Cate Blanchett in New York City, supporting her fellow cast member while looking serenely gorgeous in the process. The ethereal beauty wore a sheer black lace dress with a bodysuit underneath, which she paired with open-toe black heels and a contrasting, rich red lipstick. Rooney then topped off her look with a cute and edgy twisted top knot for her dark, mid-length hair, which we simply had to copy!
Tie the top knot
This style works best on day-two, unwashed locks, allowing you to utilize your hair's natural hold and grit to keep your style in place. Comb through your hair to rid your tresses of any tangles. If your hair is curly or wavy at this point and you are looking to get Rooney's sleek and straight look, spritz your lengths with a heat protection spray before running a flat iron through your strands. Don't spend too long doing this though, as your hair is only going to be twisted out of the way anyway!
Use your fingers to apply a nourishing hair oil from roots to tips. This wil both help to keep your hair looking smooth and shiny while hydrating your strands: two effects for the price of one! Next, use the comb to draw your hair back and up to the crown of your head, creating a high ponytail by securing it with a hair tie.
Top tip: to tame any flyaways, give your hair a mist of hairspray and - before the spray sets - run your palms over your hair to flatten any rebellious strands out of sight. Simple!
Tie off the end of the ponytail with another hair tie as if you were tying off a braid. Next, twist the ponytail to make a tight spiral, then loop it once around the first hair tie to form the folded over knot, which you then need to fix in place with bobby pins. Complete your look by misting the knot with hairspray and you are all set!
