With the Toronto International Film Festival coming to an end in just a few days, we're taking in all of the red carpet beauty inspiration we can before its close. Our eyes were drawn first to the rust coloured makeup worn by Brie Larson, then onto Haley Bennett who gave the crown braid a whole new meaning. Our latest source of inspiration on the red carpet? Rooney Mara, who attended last night's premiere of Una wearing yet another slicked back hairstyle we can't wait to try.
For her first red carpet appearance at TIFF on September 10th, Rooney attended the premiere of Lion wearing a unique, yet similar slicked back style, proving that she is this year's Queen of the slicked back, 'wet' hair look. The actress wore her enviable brown locks back behind her head, and tied into a ponytail braid that showed no signs of fly-aways.
For her latest appearance at the premiere of Una, Rooney stuck to her sleek, sophisticated style and pulled her hair back into a half-up half-down style complete with a knot. Inspired by her sophisticated, yet functional take on red carpet hairstyles? You're in luck! Because Get The Look is showing you how to achieve them for the fall 2016 season!
ROONEY MARA: SLICKED BACK HAIR INSPIRATION AT TIFF 2016
THE PONYTAIL BRAID
For her first red carpet appearance on September 10th, Rooney attended the screening of the film Lion wearing a regal red gown with a boxy silhouette and pretty, intricate designs. She let the dress take centre stage by pulling her brown hair back into a sleek ponytail braid that curved out near the bottom for a quirky look.
To achieve this look start by brushing a fair bit of mousse or gel through your hair to create that sleek, 'wet' look. For a more believable approach, you can even achieve this style with already wet hair. Begin brushing your hair backwards starting at the roots, bringing your locks back behind your head and into a high ponytail. Make sure you use enough product to ensure no fly-aways and a slick, 'wet' look. Use a fine tooth comb and hairspray to perfect the base if needed.
Once you've secured your hair into a ponytail on top of your head, begin a classic braid using the hair within in the ponytail. To create the curved end, work mousse into the hair using your fingers as you braid. Use your hands to work the end of the braid into a curved shape, then spray with a generous amount of hairspray to make sure this 'do stays put!
THE HALF PONYTAIL, HALF KNOT
For her second red carpet appearance at TIFF, Rooney stuck to her slicked back ways and went with yet another sleek 'do. This time around, she pulled her hair back behind her head and into a half ponytail, half knot style that complimented her sophisticated and futuristic silver dress. This hairstyle is the perfect way to create a put-together look when you just don't have time to dry your hair in the morning, not to mention, it doubles as the perfect night-out look!
Here's how you can achieve the style for yourself:
Start off with damp hair to ensure that sleek, 'wet' look. This will also make your locks easier to maneuver. Next, use a comb to brush a generous amount of mousse into your hair to enhance the 'wet' appearance. Begin brushing the hair back at the root and lift it up as if you were about to put it into a ponytail.
Next, fold the hair into a small loop near the base of the ponytail, leaving the rest of the hair within the ponytail free to sit along your head. Secure the loop with an elastic, and double it to ensure a lasting style. Spray with a generous amount of shine finish hairspray and voila!
