Spring/Summer 2017 Fashion Week taught us that hair and makeup is meant to be playful, over-the-top and experimented with, no matter how ridiculous it may seem. While Preen re-invented spring's quintessential florals, Desigual re-purposed Snapchat's most popular filters for the runway. Meanwhile, Manish Arora's makeup artists opted to use every colour of the rainbow for models lids, and Galliano showed off a collection of beautiful gowns paired with animalistic masks.
So, how can we take these looks from runway to real life, you ask? For one of our favourite occasions: Halloween. That's right, this year's Spring/Summer 2017 shows not only gave us outfit inspo for spring, but they also gave us a few ideas that can be used for this year's Halloween costumes and beauty looks. Whether you plan on going out as an animal of sorts, a funky Snapchat filter, a flower child or a genie in a bottle, there's an inspirational runway beauty look for you! So without further ado, here are a few runway beauty looks from the Spring 2017 catwalks that make perfect Halloween costumes.
RUNWAY BEAUTY LOOKS: HALLOWEEN
The "Hippie" – or in other words, "flower child" – has been a costume of choice since the era that defined them ended. Since then, multi-coloured shades, bell-bottoms, groovy prints and florals, and peace sign accessories have been used to create the perfect, "Hippie" Halloween costume. This year, stray away from the quintessential "Hippie" costume and take some inspiration from Preen by Thornton Bregazzi's Spring 2017 runway show. Rather than taking a quintessential approach to the season, florals at Preen were re-invented to create 3D decorations on models faces and neck.
This Halloween, adopt the new "flower child" look by placing faux flowers all over your face and neck. Finish off with two unique braids in your hair and a matching floral ensemble!
GENIE IN A BOTTLE
Need a last minute costume idea? All you need is a hair-tie and a little patience to create Nicholas K's Spring 2017 Genie in a bottle-inspired hairstyle. To re-create this look, pull your hair up into a high ponytail on top of your head. Use a flat-iron to straighten the hair within the ponytail to create the pin straight look. Take a strand of hair from the ponytail and wrap it around the base of ponytail and around the elastic. Wrap the strand as high as it will go on the ponytail to create a dramatic genie look. Finish off with hairspray and a swipe of metallic liner and voila! Genie in a bottle!
At John Galliano, models took to the runway wearing animal masks with feminine fabrics. The masks came in the form of zebra's, dogs, rabbits, bears and tigers that are easily thrown on top of the head to create the perfect lazy-girl Halloween costume. If you're looking for a cuter approach to the animal costume, look to Desigual's Snapchat dog filter for inspiration. Pair your painted nose with textured curls for the complete puppy dog look!
Models at Manish Arora took the runway with lids covered with blue, green, yellow, and red shadow that made for the perfect rainbow look. Not sure how to turn this into a unique costume? These looks make for the perfect iterations of kooky, fun, won't-scare-the-kids-type of clowns.
Desigual's Spring 2017 runway show re-purposed Snapchat's most popular filters for the runway. Everything from the dog filter, the butterfly, the bee, the deer, the flower crown and the zebra filter were featured in the collection, giving us the perfect fun and unique Halloween costume inspiration. To complete these looks, use a mixture of face paints and makeup you already own!
