Skin Care: how to treat pimples, blackheads, and acne-prone skin

Skin Care: how to treat pimples, blackheads, and acne-prone skin

by Paige Exell -

While all different skin types have their downfalls, oily, acne-prone skin is one issue that nobody wants to deal with. Acne-prone skin usually comes along with an oily T-zone, blackheads, or whiteheads that can be intensified by the sweaty, summer season. This can also be a major bummer when you want to go makeup-free for the hot, summer season, but would prefer to cover up your imperfections.

Luckily, simple and practical solutions exist to finally come to grips with this high-maintenance skin type. Cleansers are available to help sooth and clean the skin, while non-comedogenic makeup is specially designed so as not to cause blocked pores. There are also many last minute tricks that are known to hide the imperfections that come along with acne-prone skin.

ADJUST YOUR MAKEUP ROUTINE TO YOUR SKIN TYPE

The first and most important thing to remember about acne-prone skin, is that it needs constant care. Every morning, make sure to clean your skin with a soap or cleanser that suits your skin type and isn't too harsh on the skin. Always opt for cold water when rinsing your face, as hot water will be too abrasive on your delicate skin. Cold water will also tighten your pores and allow for a more effective cleaning of the skin.

Once or twice a week, use an exfoliating scrub, then blot your face with a soft cloth to avoid causing irritation. Rinse your face once more with water to get rid of any leftover product.

Next, apply a moisturizer or cream specifically designed for oily, or acne-prone skin. Let the cream penetrate deep into your skin, then begin your daily makeup routine.

The most important part of your routine? Always take your makeup off before bed to let your skin rest, breathe, and take in the benefits of your night-time products while you sleep.

THE RIGHT PRODUCTS FOR OILY SKIN

Before you apply any product to your skin, you'll have to ensure that your hands and brushes are completely clean to avoid any more irritations to the skin. Once or twice a week, make sure to clean your beauty brushes, sponges, and blenders with soap and water then let them dry before use.

To enhance and unify your complexion, opt for a powdered or liquid formula, depending on your preference. L'Oreal's Infallible foundation is ideal for your skin type because it is noncomedogenic, won't clog pores and provides perfect coverage for oily skin. Remember to matte your complexion with a powder to ward off any shine throughout the day.

Spray Infallible's mist onto your face after applying your makeup to ensure even longer coverage and keep your skin glowing.

EXTRA TIPS

When heading out of the house for work, or simply for a day out with friends, don't forget to carry a powder compact in your purse to matte your complexion throughout the day, and prevent shine, especially in your T-zone. You can also apply oil blotting papers to your face to absorb excess oil.

During the day, avoid touching your face at all costs to prevent blackheads and unwanted blemishes on the skin. And if you do happen to go home with an unexpected pimple, wash your face, apply an acne spot treatment, then cover it up by applying a small amount of concealer on the spot.
