Skincare 101: how to get a natural glow like Luma Grothe

by Samantha Hunt -

If we had to pick one word to describe Luma Grothe , it would have to be luminous! The model and L'Oréal Paris ambassador stepped out for the United Nations and Parley for the Oceans launch event last night (June 29) in New York City, glowing with her signature minimalist makeup look. She may be a gorgeous model but she didn't just wake up with skin like this: soft, healthy and blemish-free skin is a thing of time and care, and we are going to show you how! Here is our guide to skincare for a bit of Luma's luminosity in your life...

Before you begin...

Before you apply anything to your face, there are 3 simple steps you can take to improve your skin: eat a balanced diet, drink more water and get enough sleep. A healthy glow needs to come from the inside as much as from your makeup palette, so top up on those much-needed nutrients, hydration and beauty sleep.

Time to wake up!

The alarm clock goes off: it's time to get your skin into shape! Start by removing any of the night's oils from your face with a Micellar Solution: a fragance free, alcohol free, hypoallergenic cleansing water, applied to the face with a cotton pad. Also use this as the first step of your evening routine to remove your makeup before cleansing.

Cleanse and exfoliate

Next, massage a cleanser over damp skin, choosing one that suits your skin type to reduce irritability. Incorporate an exfoliator into your routine, either by selecting a two-in-one cleanser that does a bit of both, or by using a heavier product a couple of times per week. Exfoliators remove dry skin and increase cell regeneration to give your skin a fresh glow.

Tone and moisturize

Next step: apply a toner to the face and neck. Cleansers can throw off the pH balance of your skin - since they are alkaline solutions and your skin is naturallly acidic - which is why we use rebalancing and harmonizing toners before moisturizing.

Illuminate and protect

Apply a base layer of illuminating primer and swap your usual foundation for a BB cream. This will cover any dark circles or blemishes whilst providing long lasting hydration. Invest in a BB cream with a built-in SPF for oil-free protective coverage in the summer season!
