From New York to London, Milan and Paris, there's one 2016 beauty trend we keep spotting at Fashion Week: kohl-rimmed eyes. This dramatic look has been paired with everything from 1970s-inspired dresses at Elie Saab to candy-coloured knitwear at Versace, proving its versatility time and time again.
The Dark Side of Spring
We think this simple look is an excellent way to offset a floaty spring dress or give your classic denim jacket some #mood. Best of all, it works well for spring when we prefer to lighten our base with the arrival of warm weather, using just a few products to achieve the ultimate lined look. Keep it daytime appropriate with a clean, thin line or glam it up for nighttime by adding a bit more kohl and then smudging it up!
Get the Look
Start by unifying your complexion with the help of a liquid foundation, tapping the product into your skin with a foundation sponge and building up coverage where needed. With this makeup look, it's especially important not to overlook dark circles: dot concealer from each corner of the eye, creating an upside down triangle. Now, use your finger or a spogne to gently tap the product out to blend it.
Using a silky black kohl pencil, line your top and bottom lashlines, ending in the shape of a cat eye. Use a soft brush to really lightly blend out the pigment and then line your waterlines. A coat of mascara is the finishing touch and helps to create a wide-eyed look!
Want to make your look more dramatic for night? Follow the tutorial above and then use a smoky eye pencil to create a thicker frame around the eyes and you're all set!
