Lady Gaga opened the iTunes Festival yesterday, a month-long series of free concerts in London which will feature everyone from Justin Timberlake to Sir Elton John. For the occasion, there were 5,000 of the most devoted Gaga "monsters" on hand to see her perform. Held at the Roundhouse in Camden, the concert was a more intimate, toned-down affair than Gaga's usual extravagant arena set-pieces, and the theatrics were all about wigs and costumes.
As well as changing costumes every 10 minutes, Lady Gaga pulled out all the stops in the wig-department last night to offer up an array of fantastic hairstyles. First appearing half an hour late, she shocked the audience with a ninja-style black face mask and long, raven-black locks with a thick, glossy fringe. Soon after, she stripped down to her current favourite seashell bikini paired with an explosive mane of blond tangles to perform her new album's title track Artpop.
Guest-starring Stefani Germanotta
Making the most of the intimate setting, Gaga was reflective and confessional in the lulls between songs, and even whipped off her bouffant wig to reveal her real, short brunette bob. For someone who is never seen without a wig, hat, mask or other, this glimpse of the real-life Stefani Germanotta hiding underneath her Lady Gaga persona was a real exclusive!
After the show, Gaga was spotted rocking a short, highlighted bob in an elaborately-structured avant-garde ensemble as she hit the streets of London, predictably stripping down to just the white body underneath for some nightclub action at London's Boujis.
This was Lady Gaga's first appearance since having to cancel her tour earlier this year due to hip surgery. Never one to do the expected, she chose not to perform crowd-pleasing hits, but to focus on new music from her album Artpop, which sounds like a sure-fire chart-topper!
