The Toronto International Film Festival 2015: what you need to know!

by Samantha Hunt -

With only 41 days to go, the countdown to the Toronto International Film Festival has officially begun! Kicking off on September 10, the 10-day film festival promises yet another year of incredible cinematic innovation, as well as being a real hotspot for all of that premiere red carpet glamour!

TIFF is celebrating it's 40th anniversary this year, and with that in mind, they have really brought together some of the biggest names both in front of and behind the camera to make 2015 the biggest year yet!

Let's take a little look at some of the upcoming highlights of TIFF 2015 to really begin the countdown...

The opening night

What a better way to usher in this year's festivals than with one of Canada's hottest directors right now! Having received high praise from his latest works Wild and Dallas Buyer's Club, Jean-Marc Vallée will be showing Demolition: his hotly anticipated new feature starring one of our favorite actors, Jake Gyllenhaal, as an investment banker who sees his life unravel before his eyes. The film also stars gorgeous L'Oréal Paris ambassador Naomi Watts, definitely one to keep an eye on this TIFF!

Homegrown talent

Definitely one of the best things about TIFF is the sheer amount of Canadian films, directors and actors that we get to see during the festival! Keep your eyes peeled for Deepa Mehta's Beeba Boys, which looks at the Indo-Canadian drug and arms scene in Vancouver. Equally, look out for another Canadian director, Jon Cassar, and his new film Forsaken starring Donald Sutherland, Kiefer Sutherland and Demi Moore in this dark drama about family estrangement.

Ambassadors at TIFF!

Next up, we have to give a shout out to one of our very own: actress and L'Oréal Paris ambassador Julianne Moore, who will be hitting the TIFF screen in her new film Freeheld, in which she stars alongside Ellen Page and Steve Carrell. The film follows the true story of a terminally ill police officer, played by Julianne, who battles to pass on her pension rights to her partner, sparking a case for LGBT rights.

Ones to watch....

Finally, we thought we would simply mention a few of the films that we definitely have on our TIFF watchlist! First up, who could say no to the Australian entry, comedy The Dressmaker, starring Kate Winslet and Liam Hemsworth in an adaptation of a Rosalie Ham novel.

We can't wait to watch Tom Hardy appear as both brothers Reggie and Ronnie Kray in 60s gang crime drama Legend, and of course, we will be watching Rachel McAdams and Mark Ruffalo star the newsroom true story Spotlight.

Only 40 more sleeps until TIFF!
