INSPIRATION: 2016'S HOTTEST MAKEUP TRENDS
Just when we had thought we'd seen it all, makeup artist Pat McGrath introduces us to – glitter lips! Yes, glitter lips. 2016 has been the year for glitter. We've seen everything from glitter eyelids to glitter lips, eyebrows and even glitter roots, but it seems that glitter lips took over as the favourite amongst designers, makeup artists and celebrities alike. The look was spotted on the runways at Versace and Burberry, with glitter coated over top of dark red and gold lipstick.
To achieve this look for yourself, apply your lipstick shade of choice, then amp it up with loose glitter over top!
This year, makeup artists experimented with everything from pastel shadows to jewel toned eyelids. But the real winner in the eye makeup department? Gloss. 2016 proved that gloss can be used in places other than your lips. Apply a touch of gloss onto your eyelids followed by your favourite shadow, add a touch of sparkle and voila!
It may not seem like anything ground breaking, but smoky eyes dominated shadow trends in 2016. Models and celebrities rocked graphic liner, cool cat eyes and negative space looks that were accompanied by a dark grey – or even brown – smoky eye lid. Smoky eyes are the perfect winter look and will give you a sophisticated look for your next holiday party.
RED LIPSTICK, NO EYE MAKEUP
While glitter lips took over as lipstick trend of the year, those who prefer a more minimalist look opted for a simple, yet classic red lip (sometimes even a vampy shade of plum!) to complement a naked eye. Pair your favourite red lipstick with a fresh complexion and no eye makeup for a look that will stand out (and one that doesn't take too long to achieve!)
There's no arguing that 2016 has been the year for highlighter to shine – literally. Models took the runway with dewy, glowing skin, while celebrities followed suit and always had their best features enhanced with a sparkling highlighter that adds instant glam factor to your face! Apply it on the high points of your cheekbones, bridge of nose, forehead and chin for the best effects.
