TIFF 2013 : how to wear a leather top

by Sarah-Jeanne Lapointe -

Leather has become a real trend on the red carpet. Celebrities wear leather dresses, jackets, trousers and some even dress in head to toe in leather. We couldn't wait for to see some leather on the red carpet at the 38th Toronto Internatinal Film Festival so you can imagine our excitement when we caught sight of Katee Sackhoff at the premiere of the film "Oculus".

The pretty blonde wore a leather peplum top which she paired with black skinny jeans. It's a look which could easily have fallen into the "rock star" category but it remained glamorous and sophisticated. Here is some advice if you want to wear a leather top;

- Coloured manicure : to avoid looking too gothic or too rock 'n' roll, go for a coloured nail varnish which will add a touch of fun to your black outfit. To spice up a red manicure like Katee's, finish with a top coat with a matt effect (an Autumn must) or just add glitter.

- Nude makeup : If you're wearing a leather top as cool as Katee's, aim for nude makeup. Make sure that your compexion is glowing and perfect, that your lips are subtly enhanced, and that your eyes are brought to life with a coat of thick mascara.

- Relaxed hair : Your hair should be casual. We suggest a side parting and light waves as seen on Katee or a smooth chignon bun for a girly touch. To counter the wild look of the black leather, steer well clear of XXL volume.

Now you you can wear leather without fear of a fashion faux pas. Do you dare?
