Tonight on the Toronto International Film Festival red carpet, actress Kate Hudson attends the premiere of Deepwater Horizon at Toronto's Roy Thompson Hall. Like other stars on the TIFF red carpet, the blonde haired beauty went for a timeless and classic look, wearing a sheer black lace gown with pretty pearl coloured embellishments that complimented the dainty pearl choker around her neck.
Like fellow actresses Brie Larson, Haley Bennett, Lily-Rose Depp and more, Kate opted to wear her hair out of the way and behind her face in a classic braid that sat low on her head. She left a few strands of hair hanging around her face for a more naturally beautiful and carefree look. But while we love her cool-girl braid, it was Kate's flawless complexion that caught our eye.

A COOL-GIRL BRAID
While many celebs have been taking the braid trend to a whole new level, trying out different styles and complicated techniques, Kate Hudson went back to basics with a classic, low ponytail braid. She left strands of hair hanging around her face for a more carefree look that allowed her choker and gorgeous sheer gown to take centre stage.
To achieve a braid like Kate's, start off by parting your hair down the middle (or slightly off to the side – whichever you prefer) with a comb. Next, pull your hair to the back of your head as though you were about to secure it into a low ponytail that brushed the back of your neck. Begin a classic braid using all of your hair, then secure with an elastic once you reach the end of your strands.
Pull a few pieces of hair out from around your face to create that dishevelled cool-girl look like Kate's. Spray your hair with shine finish hairspray to ensure long-lasting wear and voila! You've created a versatile look that can be worn on the red carpet or for a chill night in with friends!
A FLAWLESS MATTE COMPLEXION
Kate's cool-girl hairstyle and sultry black embellished dress may have stood out from the crowd, but it was her flawless matte complexion that really caught our eye. The actress warmed up the rest of her look with golden brown shadow, bronzer on the cheeks and a glossy nude lip.
Ready to try out a matte complexion like Kate? Here's how!
Start off by unifying your base with a matte liquid foundation. Use a beauty blender, brush or sponge to cover your entire complexion with the formula. Follow up with concealer under the eyes to get that flawless, overall look.
To create a perfect matte complexion, you'll want to set the makeup under your eyes. This will ensure a photo shop finish! To do this, simply pat a small dose of loose translucent powder under your eyes. Let the powder sit for about 5 to 10 minutes, then use a brush to brush away the excess powder. This will set the makeup and give you a flawless finish.
Using a bronzing powder that is at least 2 shades darker than your skin tone, shade in the apples of your cheeks, temples, and jawline. This will give you a warm flush like Kate's.
To begin the eyes, use a golden brown shade of eye shadow to cover your entire upper lids, moving upwards towards your brow bone. Blend shadow into the area underneath your lower lashes to create a shadow. Finish off with a volumizing mascara like L'Oreal's new Feline mascara to enhance the eyes further.
Finish off your look with a nude lip gloss that will compliment your soft makeup!
