On September 18th, weeks of new film premieres, parties and major celebrity appearances came to an end with the 41st annual Toronto International Film Festival. We love TIFF for its films, but like any great awards shows, we're equally enamoured by the style the stars flaunt. Whether the actors were attending their film premiere party or strutting their stuff on the red carpet, they made sure to pull out all the stops for this year's festivities.
That's why we're recapping the best red carpet moments from TIFF 2016, from the best dressed celebrities to the best beauty moments. So, whether you missed it, need some fall fashion and beauty inspiration, or are just simply curious, read on to find out who topped our best dressed list for TIFF 2016.
TIFF 2016: BEST DRESSED CELEBRITIES ON THE RED CARPET
Fall may have arrived, but that didn't stop celebrities from pulling out their summer best summer looks on the red carpet. L'Oreal muse Naomi Watts made her TIFF 2016 red carpet debut wearing a breezy purple maxi dress decorated with florals and paired with brown wooden wedges and beach-y waves for the ultimate boho look. Reese Witherspoon followed suit, stepped out onto the red carpet in a pink and silver mini dress that gave nod to summer's off-the-shoulder trend.
Others steered clear of florals, opting for Crayola coloured gowns instead. Exhibit A: Lupita Nyong'o who took brights to a whole new level with her yellow and blue strapless gown adorned with exotic embellishments and subtle sequins. Meanwhile, Natalie Portman and Dakota Fanning showed up wearing 50 shades of green – Natalie in a light green embellished t-shirt dress, and Dakota in an emerald green strapless gown.
And just when you thought that was it for summer colours, Emma Stone and Chloe Grace Mortez went ahead and showed us how great yellow can look when paired with a bold lip or statement hair colour.
Other celebs kept things a little more classic, like Dakota Fanning, Rooney Mara and Amy Adams who mixed a vibrant red gown into their TIFF 2016 wardrobe rotation. Olivia Wilde, Kate Hudson and Rooney Mara also proved how trusty a good LBD can be.
What's a glamorous gown without an equally gorgeous hairstyle and makeup look to go with it? This year, TIFF's red carpet saw a number of wearable beauty trends, like rust coloured eyeshadow on Brie Larson, loose ponytails on Chloe Grace Mortez, crimped hair on Haley Bennett, bright eyeshadow on Lily-Rose Depp, voluminous curls on Naomi Watts and bold lipstick on well, just about everyone.
So, if there's one thing we can take from TIFF 2016, it's to keep your hair textured, ponytails low, lips bold, and eye makeup bright for autumn 2016.
