Top of the knots: 3 twisted updos to stay cool this season!

by Samantha Hunt -

When the summer season is at its hottest, we all look for any way to keep calm, cool and collected! Whether this means switching up your makeup routine for lighter products with staying power or applying a moisturizer with an SPF, there are so many ways you can adapt with style and only a few simple changes!

To get ahead of the heat wave, here are three gorgeous hair inspirations straight off of the runway to help you keep cool under the sun while looking fabulous this season...

Knotted hair twists

On the Summer 2015 runway for the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection, there wasn't a stray hair in sight, since all of the models were sporting these cute twisted buns! Starting from the top of your head, use a comb to section off layers of hair and gather them into ponytails with hair ties. Then twist each piece and wrap it into a bun against the scalp, securing them in place with bobby pins. Continue through the other layers of hair until you have a row of twisted buns: perfect for a quirky addition to any daytime summer style!

An alternative top knot

Whether you are looking for an office updo or a hairstyle to team with a classic evening look, why not try an alternative high knot straight off of the runway! Run a nourishing hair oil from the roots to the tips of your hair and comb to get a sleek high-shine look. Use the comb to pull your hair together at the back of your head before folding the ponytail in half to create a loop and secure in place with a hair tie, leaving a section free. Use the loose strand to cover the hair tie by wrapping it around the knot and tuck the end of the strand into the hair tie. Finish by smoothing the protruding piece of hair into a flat, smooth shape using further hair oil and a comb, and fix in place with hair spray.

The natural, no-fuss knot

This style only works with those lucky long-haired ladies out there, as your hair needs enough weight to hold itself in place. To get this gorgeous relaxed style, start by running your fingers through your hair to get rid of knots before applying a light mist of texturing spray to the area just below the nape of your neck to help create friction. Secure your hair in a low ponytail with a hair tie before wrapping your own hair into a knot to cover the tie and create this gorgeous look.

Top tip: for those sultry summer days, repeat one of the above knots to wet hair to lock in moisture and keep your head cool throughout the day!
