Last year, we dispelled the myth that headbands were just for schoolgirls, and instead declared them one of the best accessories you could work into your styling routine.
This year, Paris Haute-Couture Fashion Week also took a stand on the subject, and they've upgraded the headband in a major way! At several of the most anticipated shows of the week, chic simple hair was accessorized with an elaborate, statement making headpiece. Say "goodbye" to complicated braided updos, and embrace the oversized butterfly headpiece! Ready for some inspiration?
What could be more romantic than a flowery headpiece? Conjure up the fairies and elves with a delicate floral garland draped over your hair. Of course, the most authentic way would be to make one yourself with the flowers from your garden, but if you're not into daisy-chains or you live in a big city, get a ready-made material one instead that will last all summer. On the Yulia Yanina show, the designer paired floral headpieces with floral fabrics for a super feminine look.
We saw butterflies on the runways of both Jean Paul Gaultier and Alexis Mabille. Pair a sleek and modern chignon with a ditzy butterly headpiece for a look that's equal parts fun and visionary. You could go for one or two oversized butterflies on a headband, or opt instead for many small butterfly hairclips all over!
Think: sillk scarves with art deco prints or neutral colored fabrics with beaded or sequin embellishments. The model on the runway for Versace had a white, beautifully draped fabric over her sophisticated center part hairstyle. The fabric perfectly matched her ensemble and featured a sequin design. For Armani, the models wore patterned silk scarves tied around their heads for a vintage, 1920's party vibe. Both looks were super glamorous and a great way to hide a bad hair day !
Which look will you try?
