Tutorial: how to do a contrasting French manicure

by Kathy Saunders -

Nail art doesn't always have to be complicated and we think that a contrasting French manicure is perfect for anyone who wants to create an eye-catching look without spending hours doing it!

Naturally, we have a tutorial to do just that!

Step one

Apply a base coat to protect your nail and help your manicure last longer.

Step two

Apply two coats of nude nail polish and let it dry completely.

Step three

Use a small strip of sticky tape to section off the tips of your nails. Bandage tape is perfect as it peels off easily meaning you're less likely to make a mistake later on.

Step four

Paint the taped off section black, let it dry and then apply another coat of black. Let it all dry thoroughly.

Step five

Gently peel off the tape and you should have a contrasting French manicure! Finish with a transparent top coat to protect your manicure and help it last longer and you're done!

The brilliant thing about this nail art technique is that it works with just about any contrasting colour combination, so have fun with it! You could even do it with two neon shades...
