Shay Mitchell looked super glam on the red carpet of the 2013 CNN Heroes tribute event. The 26 year old actress attends the show every year, but this time she had a special role: presenter!
As usual, Shay looked impeccable. She donned a classic little black dress by Alaia with black platform heels and emerald earrings. She went with a nude manicure, but we think a jewel toned polish to match her jewelry would have been absolute perfection!
For her makeup, Shay usually opts for a glowy, bronzed look (you can find out how to achieve that with our article on light-reflecting makeup), but for this event she rocked matte makeup. Here's how to get the look!
Step one: A lot of foundations have a little hint of shimmer in them to give your skin a healthy glow, but for this look you want to find one that offers a matte effect. Choosing matte doesn't mean your skin will look dull, it just cancels out any extra shine for a sleek, modern look.
Step two: Use concealer on any blemishes and imperfection. Use a brush to blend it in well with your foundation, then set your base with a matte powder.
Step three: Shay almost always uses a contouring powder in a shade or two darker than her natural skin tone along the sides of her face and up toward the temples. This gives the illusion of heightened cheekbones. Use a big fluffy brush to apply contouring powder to keep it looking natural.
Step four: If you're going to go for a bold lip, always keep your eye make-up simple. Use a black eye liner pencil to line the top lashline. Apply several coats of mascara to give volume and length to your lashes.
Step five: Apply a moisturizing balm to your lips as matte lipstick can be especially drying. Use a brush to apply the red lipstick to your lips, blot, and set the lipstick with your matte powder to help it last all night long. Top it off with another swipe of lipstick and you're good to go!
Now you look like a Pretty Little Liar, with an emphasis on pretty!
