Avril Lavigne is a Canadian singer from Belleville, Ontario. She started by singing at church, but eventually taught herself the guitar and moved towards a more pop-punk style.
In 2002, before her 18th birthday, she released her debut album "Let Go". Tracks such as "Complicated" and "Sk8r Boi" were very successful, and the album sold more than 15 million copies worldwide, going 6 times platinum. Her following albums were Under My Skin (2004), The Best Damn Thing (2007) and Goodbye Lullaby (2011). Her 2007 song "Girlfriend" got to number one on Billboards top 100, while also earning her 5 Grammy nominations, MTV music awards, MTV European music awards and more.
In 2006, Avril married musician Deryck Whibley, of the Canadian band Sum 41. They divorced in 2010, and Avril has since remarried - to Chad Kroeger of the band Nickleback.
Her trademark look consists of heavyy black eyeliner, colorful outfits, and girly, punk outfits. She has also produced a fashion line Abbey Dawn, and two fragrances: Black Star and Forbidden Rose. The Avril Lavigne Foundation works towards raising awareness for children with serious illnesses.
