Catherine Elise Blanchett, better known as Cate, was born on May 14th, 1969 in Melbourne, Australia. A talented actress, Cate has got an impressive array of awards under her belt, comprising two Academy Awards, three Golden Globes and, as if that wasn't enough, three BAFTA awards!
One of Cate's BAFTAs was awarded for her portrayal of England's Queen Elizabeth I in the 1998 film 'Elizabeth'. Following this dramatic rise to film superstardom, Cate won a starring role in the movie 'The Aviator', directed by Martin Scorcese. Most recently, Cate won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in Woody Allen's movie, 'Blue Jasmine' in which she sensitively portrayed a depressed woman, caught in a chain of negative events. On top of that, Cate has appeared in a wide variety of other films including 'Lord of the Rings' and 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' alongside Hollywood favorite, Brad Pitt.
Cate has performed extensively on the live stage, predominantly in Sydney, Australia, where she and husband Andrew Upton (who is a playwright) were both made artistic directors of the Sydney Theatre Company.
Cate's photogenic features mean that she's no stranger in front of the camera. It might be her feminist beliefs shining through, but one thing's for sure: she always looks super-confident (especially when she's rocking her favorite look of a smart blazer and sassy heels). She's also a keen supporter of conservation charities and is involved with an initiative called the Green Carpet Challenge, which aims to raise awareness of sustainable fashion across the world.
